Making Stuff Up
I wrote five novels for Silhouette and Harper back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. I suspect that I own the only existing copies, though there might be one or two lurking on a dusty shelf in a used bookstore somewhere. Believe it or not, writing romance novels is excellent training for writing travel stories. But more about that in a future post....

My last published work of fiction was a children’s picture book, Kokopelli’s Gift. The book won a bronze award at the 2002 BEA convention, and later that year was recognized by the Arizona Humanities Council. The inspiration for this tale about a drought-stricken village came from my experiences as a volunteer docent at Palatki, a cliff dwelling near Sedona.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be working for a long, long time, at least according to the social security status report that arrives in the mail each year. But when I picture my writing future, I see myself coming full circle, once again spinning stories about imaginary people. I love to travel, I love to write about travel … but wow, there’s something so liberating about making stuff up.
